Off-site session of Research Council of NAS of Ukraine was held April 5 at the premises of “AutoKrAZ” with participation of scientists of Pisarenko Institute for Problems of Strength, PoltavaStateAgrarianAcademy and KharkovPolytechnicUniversity. Lead technicians of Kremenchug Automobile Plant have taken part in this event. Issue on the agenda was “Problems of strength and reliability of motor vehicles”. In his opening speech General Director Roman Chernyak said that scientists and manufacturers cooperate for the first time ever at KrAZ and rapprochement of production and science will be useful to everybody. Information and experience gained by scientists will make it possible for automotive industry to implement quickly advanced technologies, new materials and new practices. “ “AutoKrAZ” develops today new models that were not in production before. We have no right to make mistakes with limited time for long-term tests, introduction and research works because new customized products must be launched quickly. Such a consolidation of theory and practice will help both KrAZ and scientists to resolve their issues. “
Participants of off-site session based on research findings in the field of engineering gave talks on the following themes: motor vehicles units and structural components wear increase processes, armor prototype design and process research and development with variable level of protection for motor vehicles, evaluation of KrAZ chassis strength in emergency braking and motor vehicles cylindrical vessels inner surface preparation for non-metallic coating. The issues have been discussed both by visitors and KrAZ technicians.
Director of Pisarenko Institute for Problems of Strength, Associate Fellow of NAS of Ukraine Mr.V.Kharchenko thanked for interesting visit to plant on behalf of scientific staff: a glimpse at KrAZ history in the company’s museum, production facilities and opportunity to see capabilities of KrAZ trucks at the company’s proving ground. He also said that such form of cooperation is very efficient, it enables to get to know each other and fundamental research made by scientists must be implemented into production and makes it possible for manufacturers to produce quality and competitive products. Import substitution is a challenging issue for Ukraine; scientists examine new materials to enable their use as an alternative to imported ones. “It was marvel to us that KrAZ vehicles are able to withstand severe impacts on concrete obstacles on the proving ground and remain undamaged. We will be glad if our research will be useful to KrAZ truck in terms of strength,” – said the scientist.
“AutoKrAZ” intends to make these events regular to forge close links with scientists and resolve its issues based on their experience and research in favor of users.
